Dress Ideas: Multicolored Prom Dresses

Like floral and animal print dresses, multicolored dresses are a hot new trend for prom dresses. Typically people would choose a prom dress with one or two colors, but now that has changed. Dresses featuring various colors are beautiful, unique and unforgettable. In order to fully grasp their beauty you have to see a gorgeous one. Some multicolored dresses have too much going on and seem to lack focus. The trick to finding the perfect multicolored dress is to first choose a set of colors that you like. Once you have done that you just have to find a dress that includes some or all of those desired colors. There is a huge market of multicolored dresses and they are great for the spring and summer. Just in time for prom season.
Multicolored prom dresses are fun and flirty. They bring out the free-spirit in you. They come in so many different designs and colors, your options are endless. They are also reminiscent of the Caribbean and Latin America due to their colorful, free-moving designs. Multicolored gowns are quite popular among competitors in professional dance competitions. Examples of these dresses can be seen on shows like Dancing with the Stars. Musicals and Broadway plays like West Side Story, Grease and Dance and Me have lots of multicolored dresses featured in them.

Dress Ideas: Floral Print

Are you afraid of to wear floral print because you think you’re going to end up looking like a member of the Brady Bunch? Well, have no fear because the times of nauseating floral print are gone. There’s a stigma associated with floral print, and when most people think of floral print dresses they instantly associate them with their grandmother's wardrobe. That is not the case today. Floral print dresses have made a huge comeback this year and it isn’t dying down. The popular pattern has been seen all over the red carpet and runways. A fresh, flowery pattern can brighten anyone’s day.

The great thing about floral print is the colors. While some may come in one or two colors, most of these dresses utilize various colors which make for a great outfit. Due to the range of colors each dress features, you are able to accessorize using your shoes and jewelry to make your outfit even more beautiful.
However, when wearing floral print on an evening or formal gown do not over accessorize. If it’s for a classy event like your senior prom then too many accessories can take away from the dress. With a floral evening gown it is best to keep your accessories to minimum and wear a solid-colored pair of shoes that will make the dress pop. Over accessorizing can make you appear overdone. Ultimately, for the casual floral dress definitely accessorize; for the formal floral dress keep the accessories simple.
Floral patterns help you to express your own individual style. Since so many people are fearful of floral, because they think they don’t know how to wear it, it’s rare you will ever run into someone with your dress. For floral dresses, casual or formal, always stick with solid colors for your accessories. Too many patterns may be confusing to look at.
Floral dresses make beautiful prom and evening wear because they brighten the room. If your prom is outside or on a beach, then they are a definite must-have. They make you and your features pop like nothing else. If you’re still not convinced floral print is for you, then start small and work your way up: Get a great pair of floral print shoes. They will instantly add a pop of color and style to your wardrobe. Even a floral print purse makes a solid dress pop. At the end of the day, have fun with your floral prints because you’re guaranteed to make a splash wherever you are in it. Who doesn’t love looking at flowers?

The After-Party Dress - Versatility is Key

From innocent Prom to fun After-Party

So you’ve decided you and your date are going to an after-party after the prom. Now, you need to know whether you will be changing into another dress or not. Depending on what kind of prom dress you wear, you may or may not need to change. It’s totally up to you if you want to buy another dress for this momentous occasion. Most girls do end up buying an after-party dress for a few reasons.

1.     They know if their parents see them leave in the after-party dress that they’d probably be in big trouble.
2.     They are easier to move in.
3.     They’re probably a little more revealing and a little sexier than your original prom dress.
However, if you buy a prom dress that’s suitable for both parties then go with one. Some girls don’t like the hassle of changing, and would rather just stay in one dress. It all depends on the prom dress you choose. If you go with a dress that’s movable and versatile, then you definitely won’t need to buy two dresses unless you really want to.
Buying two dresses does have its benefits though. You could do your hair and makeup differently, or even change your shoes to match the after-party dress. It would be like playing dress up and changing from one persona to another. You wear one dress to the prom and party in the other one. After-parties are definitely rowdier than proms and its way more crowded, so wearing a long, flowing dress is not a good idea. Short and mini dresses are perfect for the after-party. Hi-low dresses are good too, but just remember that the train in the back may be a little bulky in the club or venue where the party is. If the after-party is outside or even on a beach, definitely go with a shorter after-party dress. If your prom dress is already short and you’ll be able to dance in it then don’t bother buying another dress. You’ll be killing two birds with one stone if you buy a prom dress that can be considered an after-party dress, plus you save money.
Finding a Prom and After-Party dress all in one is worth it
Definitely figure out your after-prom plans before you start looking for a dress. Depending on what you’ll be doing and where you’ll be located, the dress you choose can make or break you. Going to a crowded club in a mermaid dress is not a good idea, so if you plan on going with a mermaid style dress then definitely buy an after-party dress. Whatever you choose, at the end of the night have fun and be careful. You can never re-do your senior prom so make sure it’s done your way!
This After-Party dress can be worn as a prom dress as well, so you wouldn't have to change! Versatility is Key!

Dress Ideas: Short, Long or Hi-Low?

Not sure whether you want to go short or long when it comes to your prom dress? Well, here’s some information that will hopefully help in the process. Are you a leg person? By this I mean do you love showing off your legs? If your answer is yes then you’re most likely better off going short. Short prom dresses are easy to move and dance in so you won’t have to worry about doing those things. Another plus is the fact that no one will be able to step on the train of your dress. It’s truly annoying dancing with your date and realizing he’s tripping all over your dress. However, long dresses do have their advantages as well. They’re both mysterious and sexy all at the same time. If you aren’t a leg enthusiast then they will be great for you. If you don’t necessarily want a long, flowing dress you can get one that stops at your ankles, or go with a tea-length one. Tea-length dresses stop a few inches under your knees and aren’t too long or too short. If you like both short and long dresses you’re in luck. One of the hottest trends on the market is hi-low dresses (dresses that are short in the front and long in the back). Sounds strange, but it looks gorgeous.

The length of your dress is dependent on your personal preference as well as your comfort zone. If the thought of wearing a dress above the knee makes you twinge, then go a little longer. If you love your legs and want to show them off then go short. The great thing about prom season is the fact that wherever you are it’s usually pretty warm, so you won’t have to worry about freezing that night. If you are going to be in a colder climate then go long unless you have some really warm stockings. If you wish to go long but still want to show some leg, consider getting a dress with a leg slit in it. It shows just enough leg without showing too much. Once you determine your length decide on a neckline to match it. Halter, strapless and sweetheart are ideal for prom dresses of any length. Plunging necklines are now making a splash on the prom scene as well. If you go for a low-cut neckline then definitely go long. By doing this you will be leaving something to the mystery. Showing too much skin could make or break your outfit. Everything is dependent on the length so figure out which one you’d be most comfortable in!

Prom Preparation is Key

Prom season will be here before you know it and you will definitely want to be the bell of the ball. SAT scores, college essays, senior dues and your mind is probably spinning into overdrive. Take a deep breath and think about how you want to look for the big day. Prom is a big deal and you want to be as unique as possible. You don’t want to buy the same dress that ten other girls will show up wearing. So start with these steps:

*Budget* - You know how parents can sometimes be when they’re paying for stuff. Tell them this is a once in a lifetime experience. Decide how much you or your parents are willing to spend on a dress, shoes and other accessories. Shop for dresses and accessories in your budget, and make the best of it. If you, or your date, are working to pay for everything yourselves estimate how much things will be. If you plan on riding in a limo or a party bus with twenty other people, then make sure you know how much to put in.

First: Pick a color – What color do you see yourself and your date wearing? Are you going with the classic prom colors such as pink, violet, or blue or are you going to step out of the norm and choose something totally different? The great thing about proms is there are no color rules. You can wear black or neon orange and it doesn’t matter. Have fun and forget the rules because it’s your dress and you only experience your senior prom once!

Second: Pick a style or trend – Lace, chiffon, sequins and ruffles are all hot trends from the Prom 2013 runways. Ever since Kate Middleton wore her lace wedding gown there’s been a major demand for it. Lace is sexy and elegant, but may not be comfortable to everyone. Chiffon makes anyone appear as though they are floating on air; as if your movement requires no energy. Chiffon adds a touch of grace making for a flirty, romantic look. Sequins are always a great option. Sequins and beading also add a fun, yet classic feel to the dress. Plus, they’re eye-catching and will help you stand out in the crowd. Last but not least are ruffles. Ruffles are making a huge comeback and for Prom 2013 they’re essential for an ultra-feminine look. They look great on ball gowns and cocktail gowns. These trends are undeniably hot for the 2013 prom season!

Third: Find a dress – Never pick the first dress you try on unless you’re absolutely sure. Take your time and don’t rush because when the night comes you don’t want to look at your dress and feel disappointed. Also, consider how the dress makes you feel. If when you put it on, you’re smiling and glowing and you feel like the only girl in the world then go with it. Emotions play a major role in choosing prom and wedding dresses.

Fourth: Accessorize – Make sure your accessories adorn your dress and do not overshadow it. You want jewelry that makes a statement but it must go with your dress or your entire outfit/presentation will be off.

Fifth: Find a date (if you don’t already have one) – Make sure whomever you choose, they are responsible and that you trust them. Also, remind them to get you a corsage.

Lastly, decide what you all are going to do after the prom: after-party, hotel, restaurant or straight back home.

Whatever you choose, have fun and enjoy the night!
